The genetics involved in combining yellow amoena and dominant b/violet
amoena get pretty complex. That's not something that will be accomplished
in one, or even a half dozen steps unless one is extraordinarily lucky.
There's some good material out there to work from, at that. Blyth's
DECADENCE for one, Keppel's TOUR DE FRANCE, for another. Red variegatas of
the dominant amoena type do exist--a big step ahead of starting out from
violet amoenas as at least the capacity for yellow pigment is there--just
add the (carotenoid) amoena distribution of the pigment. Simple? Not
hardly.
An alternate approach--violet Umbrata over yellow amoena. That's what the
existing rather good colored red amoenas posted on Iris-photos in the past
couple of days (or on another website) may be.
At least that's my 2 1/2 cents worth, give or take a penny.
