Re: RE: Cult: Spathe borers

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your post. This sounds exactly like what I have here except my worms are more white to cream colored. Oddly enough, your article doesn't purpose a solution to eliminate them. I'll try a very late application of cygon next year, perhaps one week before bloom, to see if that helps. The problem this these pests is that you don't realize they're in there until it's way too late.

These worms didn't appear to like either white or purple Irises very much, Mesmerizer, Reincarnation, and Sultry Mood came through untouched, others were completely destroyed. Oh well.

Thanks
Chris

I've had those same "bugs" for years, too! And always
wondered why I never heard anything about them. I
thought maybe I was the only one.

From what I've seen of them... I don't think they're
the same as the infamous iris rhizome borer. And they
ARE definitely the ones doing the damage, not just
hanging out in already rotten buds. One iris that they
seem to really like is the historic, 'Loreley'. But
I've seen them on some others too. It's a good thing
they're not more plentiful or they'd really be
frustrating. I wish this thread had been started
earlier; cuz, I probably could have gotten a picture.
I'll probably have to wait until next season, now
though.
