You could do that, but I've never found it necessary.  Envelopes  are made of 
porous paper and allow air transfer.  Just shake them  once a day.  Knock 
loose any seed stuck to the envelope, but reversing top  & bottom will let them 
fall.  
 
It really is as simple as it sounds.  And I don't have to worry about  my 
cats knocking those cups down.
