Francelle, your bags sound much like the ones I made to keep the deer  away 
from my pods.  I put draw strings on the first few, but didn't the  last 25-30. 
 I was afraid that the bunched up net would draw moisture in my  humid 
climate and cause rot. 
 
However, I have found one delightful use for the bags.  The stalks on  my 
crosses are starting to rot.  (more so than usual)  I've found I  can put the pod 
and it's tag in these net (lace in my case) bags and pin them to  my 
message/cork board!  This way I don't have to worry about the pods  rolling off the 
shelf or being misplaced!  Air circulates well.
