I'd say yes, until you see how the crosses you are making respond. Easier to keep germination conditions more uniform that way.

Plus some of the pods turn into really nasty slimy goop after a couple of months in the fridge - nature at work ;-) While the pod provides a steady level of moisture without adding water & paper towel, it does decompose - some gradually turn to a damp papery consistency, but others soft rot to nastiness. Haven't noticed any difference in viability of seeds related to composition of pod after 2 months.

<   It is best then to shell the seeds prior to placing them in the fridge
then? I wouldn't want to miss any that germinate, or break off any fragile new
shoots or roots trying to shell them after germination.
