David, in my garden (So.KY zone 6) it simply means the walls of the
chambers are thicker. Pods have character and variability, also.

Subject: [iris] pod size vs. seed quantity
Hi all,
I have a couple pods on 'Six Pack' that are getting enormous, compared
to any
Iris pods I've ever seen at least.
I was wondering if that may mean they could have lots of seed, or if
there
just may be lots of empty space?
David
