And sometimes that might only be found out by others growing it and hybridizing with it and evident in the Registration records. <If a less than great iris turns out to be a wonderful parent then you might want to register it, <even though it is less than perfect. I agree that they shouldn't be released to the public at large. It is a matter of the people on the forum keeping track of them and not distributing them. The seedlings are for breeding stock only. If we are breeding Irises we all have them and manage to not distribute them. We would simply be expanding our breeding material with plants with new or unusual characteristics and selecting from them. Apparently the resistance to the idea is too strong. However, people will still contact each other and trade them anyway and we can't stop them. So why not create a Forum to deal with it in a responsible way with guidelines, tips, and goals? It might also help people to choose seedlings better as well. If they wouldn't select a seedling for the Forum it probably would not be good to keep at all. I'm all for restricting the distribution of unworthy plants, registered or not (especially the Registered ones!). The ASI distributes unregistered plants all the time in the Plant Sale. Why not create something like that for the other classes? -----Original Message----- >From: Dana Brown <ddbro@sbcglobal.net> >Sent: Jun 20, 2010 9:44 AM >To: iris@hort.net >Subject: RE: [iris] Limbo seedlings > >Amen to that Francelle!!
