My experience with netiquette on email lists
(since the mid-80s) has been different - it's
only necessary to include pertinent recent parts
of an ongoing discussion, to provide context.

The recent discussion on test gardens has been
especially problematic, because people have been
including entire digests in their responses.
Those unfortunate people who receive iris-talk
in digest mode are therefore getting multiple copies
of these same digests, all concatenated into one
giant digest. I can't imagine how huge yesterday's digest
must have been!

My two cents on the test garden issue: I think it's a great
idea, but there's no way AIS or its regions could set them up given
their current financial situations. It will have to be done
by individuals. Test gardens would provide a very useful
venue for judges to evaluate seedlings and new varieties,
particularly since regions (and even the AIS) are having
difficulty finding host gardens for their meetings and
conventions. Speaking of which, is there a venue for
a 2013 AIS convention yet?

Gesine,

Standard 'Netiquette is to leave the thread on the message you are replying
to, or at least it has been since the late '70's.

Hi all,

Gosh darn it peeps, please TRIM your posts!

What I get in digest ends up being like a gigantic scarf, with the ancient
history of the entire world (well, no, but seems like it sometimes!)
attached.

For those of us with not-so-great computer monitors, who wear glasses, it
would help readability a LOT, if you would follow standard netiquette and
trim off the posts you're responding to, leaving just enough to indicate
what you're responding to.
