Holly, <the> book to get if you are thinking about breeding irises is The World of Irises, available from the AIS website.
There is also a huge amount of information about heredity of pigments and patterns in the archives of this list. The search function is a bit clunky to use, but try searching <pigment> with whole word match turned off. Or <genetics>. That should keep you busy for a year or so ;-)

Look for posts by Tom T. Little (now Tom Waters) and Neil Mogenson (not sure of spelling) in older posts and Chuck Chapman in more recent ones. Neil is no longer living, but Tom and Chuck are still around, both here and on Facebook. Now may not be the best time of year to get questions answered quickly, but keep asking.
