John asks
:Can someone tell me what bloomout is, please?
Bloomout is when an iris blooms, but does not make increase. Since
any rhizome blooms only once, this can mean the death of the plant,
much to the frustration and consternation of the gardener.
Sometimes a bloomout can be saved by caring for the old rhizome after
it blooms--it may produce very small new increases, which will bloom
after several years of growing.
Happy irising, Tom.
