Janice, hi! The Registrations and Introductions checklists published by the
AIS include descriptions for *every* named iris. These descrips include a
code for what time of the spring season the plants flower and whether they
rebloom. They touch on height, hybridizer, year of introduction and
parentage. They do not, unfortunately, mention foliage, and only
occasionally do they make note of fragrance.
Our club has a complete set of checklists, which are published for every
decade beginning with 1939. The decade book for the 1990s is not yet
available, but booklets for each year are. You'll find these books for sale
on the AIS Storefront page of the quarterly Bulletin. They aren't horribly
expensive individually, but a complete set costs more than I can afford.
That's why I use the ones my club keeps in its library.
If I had money to begin collecting my own set, I would start with the
decade books for 1979 and 1989.
If you belong to a local club, see if they have a set, and if not, ask if
they would like to start a library. I don't know of any other comprehensive
