And I've been reading IRISES, by Judith Berrisford, 1961, and it has
something to say about GUDRUN, which was hybridized by Mrs.William R. Dykes
and introduced in 1930. I believe her given name was Katherine.
After his untimely death "fortunately Mrs. Dykes went on raising the flowers
that her husband had loved so much, and an iris of her raising--the white
'Gudrun'--was later to do for the whites what 'W.R.Dykes' had done for the
yellows. 'Gudrun" is still an influencial faactor in the breeding of white
irises and is found in the pedigrees of many of the best both in this country
[England] and in America today".
Not top drawer scientific writing to be sure, and dated, but a nice story.
