TB: BLACK FALLS

Hi Everyone!

Brad Kasperek had this to say about BLACK FALLS in his 1996 Zebra Gardens
catalog when he introduced it for Don Nebeker last year:
"The black on BLACK FALLS is the truest black I have ever seen in an iris.
Last spring I compared its flower to BEFORE THE STORM and was startled to
find that BTS appeared "red" next to it.

I did not have a flower of BTS available to repeat this comparison, but I
did compare the appearance of the falls of BLACK FALLS with those of all
the other darkest iris in bloom in my garden as they were back lighted by
the slanting rays of the sun in a clear sky at 7:30 this evening. Under
these conditions SUPERSTITION and BACK IN BLACK appeared dark red-violet;
MIDNIGHT EXPRESS was dark blue-violet; even BLACKOUT (the pod parent of BF)
appeared very dark blue-violet, but BLACK FALLS still showed up as intense
true black. (The standards of BF are a deep shade of blue violet, quite
similar to DUSKY CHALLENGER, which happened to be blooming close by for
easy comparison).
