Bill Smoot/iris in Western NY

I'm trying to get a message (return key punched/message rejected) to
Bill Smoot, probably on a ship at sea -- not going to Convention -- other
news awaits!

 Bloom
stalks are sparse, and most of those that are there are clearly deformed.
NOT a good year for bearded irises in upstate NY.

But in Western New York, in the backyard garden that I know and adore, TB's
are abundant!! I'm going to credit alflfa and other neglect.

WNYIris Society's show is June 14, and we need just a tad more heat, cooler
nights for awhile to hold off...

IB's in full swing, along with some SDB's and I've a bloomstalk on
a beardless. I think that once it warms up there'll be a little something
for everyone.

Some tulips are just now blooming, the lilacs are at peak.

and best of all the Wisteria has begun to bloom.

My neighbor and I agreed that the blooms are quite intensely colored, haven't
been bleached by the sun no doubt, but the aroma has not been as profuse
as in the past.

and, I've rotting fans and slug holes in places that have never been bothered.

so, out with the AJAX!

Poppies are up and going to bloom soon, clematis about to color up, primula
looking good!! Hosta holding their own.

The sky at sunset last night was pretty red/pink and it's about the same
this AM, so what am I to believe, red sky at night, sailor's delight,
red sky at morning, sailor take warning??

and I'm still looking for Bill Smoot, sailor!!

PS -- where do you folks hang your green man? I'm thinking that my green man
may be a source of all the wonderful growth and bloom this year (maybe
he encourages the alfalfa??)
