If you are waiting for the pods to ripen so that you can harvest the seed,
that usually takes 2-3 MONTHS around here. I generally do not try to set
seed on iris that I plan to divide the same year, but then our growing
season is much shorter than yours. We have to have our bearded iris
planted/replanted by mid-August to avoid serious winter losses.
