Re: Transplanting

Here's our experience in Austin, Tx. We began transplanting iris today.
Due to the extremely wet spring the rot is running rampant at the farm
so we felt we either had to inspect and treat all the iris (which would
mean disturbing the root system) or begin transplanting those that
showed signs of rot. Even though our summer temperatures hover between
95 and 100, we have had good bloom success transplanting our iris from
July 15th on. The critical factor for us is water while the roots are
getting established. During the first 12 days we water 3" deep every
third day. After a sample "pull" test we cut the water down to once a
week for another one month, then none.

We have lost a few young rhiz to the heat, but with the immense process
of hand-digging and cleaning we have to start earlier than normal
anyway. I'll keep everyone posted on our experience with the early
transplant.
