Here is the Classifications for Bearded Irises:
Miniature Dwarf Bearded (MDB) Less than 8"
Standard Dwarf Bearded (SDB) 8" to 15"
Intermediate Bearded (IB) 16" to 27"
Miniature Tall Bearded (MTB) 16" to 27"
Border Bearded (BB) 16" to 27"
Tall Bearded (TB) over 27"
The differences of the IB, MTB, and BB Classes is mostly based on the
size of the flower.
As for joining AIS, go for it! You will be glad you did.
