SHOW: Logan Iris Show

Hi Everyone!

The Logan Iris Society (Region 12 - Utah) held its 7th annual Iris Show
today. Although most gardens here are a bit past peak TB bloom, we had a
nice turnout (14 exhibitors in Horticulture, the most ever for our show).
There was also a good representation in the Artistic Division. A
serendipitous outcome of the show was that the six major awards all went to
different individuals with no one or two exhibitors dominating the event.

Queen of the Show: GOOD LOOKING exhibited by Lois Reeder
Runnerup to Queen: GIFT OF DREAMS exhibited by Esther Tams
Hort Sweepstakes: Jeff Walters (11 blues)
Runnerup to Sweeps: Jared Harris (7 blues) - we had to count red ribbons to
break a tie on this one.
Best Design: Charlotte Brennand
Artistic Sweeps: Joan McFadden

A feature of the show was a separate section for Historic iris with a
special award to the best stalk in this section in honor of the Utah
Pioneer Sesquicentennial, which I won with an entry of TEA APRON.

I also received blue ribbons on all my Siberian entries; single stalks of
CAESAR'S BROTHER, DANCE BALLERINA DANCE, and SNOW QUEEN, and a collection
entry of CB.

Another effect of the weather on the iris here this year that became
particularly evident in connection with picking and entering show stalks
was the marked lack of durability in the blossoms. Many individual blossoms
are not even lasting a full day and there were quite a few stalks that had
been intended for show entry that wound up on the "for display only" table
or were left in the buckets in which they were brought.
