Heidi Blyth, the 9 year old daughter of Barry and Leslie Blyth (commercial growers in Australia) had decided to do some hybridizing about 12 or so years ago. She first dreamed up 6 or 8 names to give her iris and then proceeded to make the pollination. Her seed pod only had one seed and her dad explained it was unlikely the seedling would be good enough to introduce and she wouldn't be able to use her names she had chosen. As it turned out Jazzamataz was the seedling and she did use one of the names. Heidi is now a young woman about 22 years old working with her parents in the Nursery in Australia. Barry shared a slide of Jazzamataz with me at the ST LOUIS convention many years ago and my own daughter was a pen pal of Heidi for many years. I didn't hear about that story until a couple of days ago visiting with Barry and Leslie at the Michigan Convention.
I personally have used Jazzamataz extensively in breeding and made an
iris called RUBY TUESDAY with mahogany and tan coloring much on the
order of Jazzamataz.
