I spoke to my dad, who attended the recent AIS Board meeting at the
convention. He says that Jerry Gifford has officially resigned. One person
volunteered to take his place, but there are a couple problems with that.
Jerry Gifford lives in Tennessee, and the proposed replacement lives in
California. There is a lot of heavy material (books, medals, etc.) stored
in TN, which would be extremely costly to move to CA.
It was not clear to me whether or not the California volunteer was
officially accepted by the Board. It sounded like there will be a brief
search for someone closer to TN. In any event, I suspect the Board does not
want to make to hasty a choice after the fiasco with Jerry Gifford. It was
also not clear if Jerry Gifford will continue to operate the AIS Store in
the interim, or if it will simply shut down until a replacement takes over.
I believe we will be omitting the AIS Storefront page from the next issue
of the Bulletin, and anticipate its return in the October issue.
Speaking for myself, I would not order anything until a new person is in
place and all of the inventory has been shipped to the new location (a
minimum of a couple weeks, and more likely a couple months). In the mean
time, you might be able to survive by finding some kind soul in your local
society to share their checklists, etc, with you until the AIS Store is
operating properly again.
Scott.
