Regarding Bone Meal: In my area, I think the skunks go for bone meal.
They are regular nocturnal visitors to our neighborhood. I catch them
sometime at night digging in my lawn. They have dug up everything I ever
planted with bone meal. I used it for tulips and daffodils. They dug up
the bulbs, but left them pretty much untouched. It is a nuisance to
keep re-planting. I won't use it anymore.
If you don't have skunks, go ahead and use the bone meal.
I never heard of dogs going for it.
