Yes, Chris - the 'bud fly' was first reported in I. versicolor
by Sarah Tiffney. It seems to occur in those areas where I. versi-
color is native....colder Eastern climates, if you will. I have
PARTY LINE (I. versicolor hybrid) at the apex of my triangular
bog bed with MESA PEARL and TEMPER TANTRUM (both Siberians) right
near it....along with 10 other apogons. :-(

In 1995, only one Japanese iris, EVENING EPISODE, was affected with
*all* buds destroyed. The JIs in the same area were fine. In 1996,
EVENING EPISODE was not touched and bloomed fine *but* some of the
buds on LITTLE SNOWMAN and also one bud on MOUNTAIN GROTTO and two
on SAPPHIRE STAR (both early blooming JIs) were destroyed. The
others blooms on those plants were fine. Also last year, only two
Siberians were 'attacked' and it was late in the season. Again,
most of the buds on WHITE TRIANGLES and SKY WINGS were untouched.
My first Siberian bloomed today (INDY) so can't comment yet.
However, one of the first buds of WHAT AGAIN (SDB), had
two tiny holes in it and when it opened, some of the flower was
damaged...could have been anything.

I don't spray with anything....
Here's hoping,
