CULT-Iris Borer-Dormant Oil?

Greetings,

Has anyone tried using horticultural dormant oil spray on their iris plants
in the fall to eliminate the overwintering borer eggs as one might the eggs
of any other pest? I have had lovely results with the SunSpray highly refined
dormant oil on scale and such like and it would be such a wonderful simple
thing to just smother them with this inexpensive, benign product. It might do
in the sphids, too.

Here in tidewater Virginia it is, in the immortal words of the l Buster
Poindexter "Hot, Hot, Hot!"
