Hello fellow iris lovers...
My name is Nancy Gildart and I live in clay south of Chicago.
I've loved iris ever since I can remember and was lucky to check out an
actual Dykes the Genus Iris, which I held on to for the 3 years I worked at
the University of Michigan Graduate Library.
I battle the borer regularly, but not vigilantly enough. I dig the plants
up, divide them, do the clorox thing, plant them elsewhere and hope for the
best. This morning, probably too late to be effective, I injected them with
beneficial nematodes - a treatment I read about on the web and in the
Gardens Alive catalog. We'll see.... I hope to build some raised beds this
summer so I'll transplant them there.
I belong to HIPS and love the old varieties best. Most of mine are unidentified.
I have I. variegata, MISS INDIANA, GUDRUN, and I. pallida variegata that I
know about.
I am a BFA student at the Art Institute of Chicago and gardening is part of
my art practice.
I also collect old gardening books.
Looking forward,
Nancy
