If you are an iris fragrance fancier, check the IRIS-L archives for this
thread. We had a lively dicussion about it several months ago, with Libby
Cross (who has signed off the list for a while) And Tanya Braumiller
soliciting folks' input for the Iris Fragrance Checklist they are updating.

Iris shapes have changed a lot over the century, so probably you ought to
start with the time period you're remembering and then look for dark
cultivars from that era. The Fragrance checklist doesn't include all the
named plants, unfortunately. But if you come up with some candidate names,
we can see if there's a fragrance listing for them.

These two catalogs carry a lot of historic plants.
