Welcome Diane.
I'm a newby to LAs. I'll be getting my first shipment this year. Mulch,
water and acid is what I've been reading (corroborated by some LA growers).
I grow a number of siberians and JIs. They seem much more fussy on
transplant. Some varieties fuss more than others. We planted about a dozen
new beardless last year and about half of them looked dead within a month.
But most are growing now. Even the fussy DOTTED LINE. I doubt that it will
bloom this year though.
