Hi, Talk-ers!
The Logan(Utah) Iris Society conducts a "People's Choice" ballot at its
iris show, allowing visitors to the show to vote for their favorite
(actually, three favorite) iris(es) on display. A separate vote is
conducted on each of the two days of the show, as the appearance of the
entries can change considerably from one day to the next. The results of
the balloting at this year's show were as follows:
First Day (Friday)
1(tie). DYNAMITE (Schreiner, '97) huge, ruffled red self
1(tie). TENNISON RIDGE (Begley, '89) high contrast white and deep burgundy
plicata
3. STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN (Lauer, '93) cream and blue-violet bicolor (Queen of
Show)
4(tie). CLASSIC LOOK (Schreiner, '92) crisp white plicata stiched
violet-blue
4(tie). SUPERSTITION (Schreiner, '79) classic black
Second Day (Saturday)
1.TENNISON RIDGE
2(tie). DYNAMITE
2(tie). STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN
4. SHOREBIRD (R. Nelson, '89) ruffled white with greenish cast
5. HUCKLEBERRY FUDGE (Gibson(?), '97) brown and white plicata with
blue-purple highlights on falls
Ours is a predominantly TB show, so it is not surprising that all the
popular favorites listed above belong to that class. Non-TBs receiving
votes were I. graminea, BATIK, NEGLECTA, and KALEIDOSCOPE.
There were no really outstanding stalks of pink irises entered in this
year's show, but several very fine specimens of blue, violet, purple, and
yellow cultivars were pretty much ignored by the public in their choice of
favorites.
