Re: Seedlings downunder

From: Jan Clark <janclarx@hotmail.com>

Hi Christy,
Still alive and kicking 'down' here in Australia. I haven't been on line
much as I have been doing a large new garden bed, in between coughing and
wheezing from the flu. The weather is alternating between gorgeous sunny
days following mild frosts, and rainy days, just enough to make everything
grow. My TB's are producing zillions of offsets, some of which might even
flower in spring, and my last years baby TB seedlings look like some will
flower this year. I have over 100 TB seeds up looking much thicker and
healthier than last years seedlings, and enjoying the winter sunshine.
My Candy Lilies are shooting. I only planted 30 seeds because I thought it a
bit risky in Autumn, but about a dozen have come up so far. I'm looking
forward to seeing these in flower. How long should they take?
My Ensib'e are not doing as well, so I'm glad I left most of them to plant
later. I will put some in late in August for better results. The first lot
are wanting to go dormant because of the cold. They are in a protected
place, but are still losing their foliage. I'm a bit worried that they won't
come back next season as they are so tiny. The second batch of seedlings
(siberian type) are doing OK on a window sill, but getting a little leggy. I
will have to plant them out soon and am not sure where to put them. Any
ideas. Perhaps they need a plastic cloche during winter?
Today is a doy of the gorgeous, sunny kind, so I'm off to get a trailer of
gravel for my new path.
TTYL, Jan
