Here, many of the are have Phlox drumondii planted along
them--naturalized. Also, the native Gaillardia is common, blooming much of
the year. These plants are not mowed until after they bloom, or the cut is
high.
In neighboring Citrus County, where there are more swamps, the ditches
in some places are filled with wild Irises. I stopped a few times to try to
check them out, but every time there was an alligator...
