A lot of discussion on the viability of paper products once the digital
version is coursing through the silicon:
a paper version is de rigueur for looking up info during dividing or making
tags for new acquisitions. My laptop is still a bit too fastidious to
endure dirt and the inevitable drops from the picnic table pressed into
service as a processing center (non digital). For a 'quick-look' I can have
the paper checklist open, jot down the info, and be back in the garden
minutes before my 400 mhz monster is through its boot process.
on the other hand -- pictures of seedlings taken at convention crowd my
slide files. Every year I swear that I will peruse the new R & Is and look
up, find and properly label my 'orphan -- number only' slides. Every year I
find the process too time consuming to deal with.
Enter the electronic listing and my slide labeled 'Keppel 91-118C' almost
instantly translates to: TANGLED WEB (Keith Keppel R. 1998). Sdlg. 91-118C.
TB, 37" (94 cm), ML. S. prune (M&P 47-J-8) to cyclamen (47-L-9), slight
apricot beige (11-B-4) suffusion in center; style arms greyed mauve
(46-H-5), banana (11-K-5) toward base; F. eggplant (45-H-12) edge,
lightening to prune, rattan (11-J-6) central blaze partially obscured by
radiating markings; beards orange and dark violet, pumpkin (10-H-11) in
throat; ruffled. 87-26A: (Rosarita x ((Rancho Rose x (71-12C, Flamenco sib,
x (68-17A, Roundup sib, x April Melody))) x Gigolo)) X 87-44A: (Foreign
Accent x (Change of Heart x Queen in Calico)). Keppel 1999.
Neither paper nor CDRom (or whatever!) will ever go out of use in my house
and garden.
Cheers,
Mike
