Hear! Hear! The availability of info on the Internet does not necessarily mean it is free. You can sell the access to the database, just as easily as a CD, with a lot less overhead. Further, you can sell an annual subscription to the database.
I agree with you totally that AIS's intellectual assets should not be given away, and I'm sorry if I implied that by suggesting it be available on the Internet. I note that AHS's home page is divided into a members and non-members part, and if you are a member you have the password to access that part of the site.
CDs just go back to the old problem that the data are obsolete by the time they are published - no different than a book. I'd happily pay for the opportunity to access a current database, or at least I would if any of my crosses took.
