In the older checklists, the RHS was used--and if you take the time, you
can translate the numbers into colors and look at a historic and see the
colors--
I have discussed this with KK several times--he now uses a different color
chart--one which is better for the coloring of Iris--but he accepts the
description from the Hybridizer--some of whom are color-blind ( or at least
act like that)--he has a form which they are supposed to complete--stating
which color is where--but many do their own thing and so in order to get
the iris registered, he accepts what the hybridizer says--
I use both color description and catalogue--but in the past year, it was:
Schreiner's--good color with blues, purples
Cooley's--good color with yellows
Roris--good color for oranges and reds
But each year they change--depends upon film, sunlight and a myriad of
other reasons--
Then, I discovered, that going to AIS Annual Meeting, many colors were very
different than they were here--remembering how pretty 'Rhonda Fleming' was
in Perry's garden, and seeing one blooming here--you would think that they
were two different varieties--and have discussed that issue before--
so I am just happy that now we have web sites and I can find pictures of
many there--and add them to my catalogue collection--
Carryl in western Montana-zone 3/4 where TB's are at peak, and of course
now we are about to have thunder boomers--
