I plant iris seeds in the fall just before the ground
freezes, 2 or 3 inches apart, 1/2" - 1" deep (depending on
their size). Most come up the following spring, a few may
come up in the second spring. If the spring is dry, I water
the rows where the seed was planted to keep them from
drying out before and after emerging. In my location the
ground is continuously frozen and snow covered the
entire winter.
There were many messages about raising iris from seeds
last winter in the archives. I think I remember Chris
Hollinshead posting a message that he recently included
a seed starting section in the CIS website:
