Well, that is because it is my understanding that very few breeders
grow irises in a clump any more and I think even fewer are selecting
for clumping quality.   Particularly for the western growers, a new
seedling blooms, they line out every single increase every single year
for the next 5 years to get it on the market and very few plants are
allowed to clump and are watched to see what they look like in it.
The closest any of the culitivars come to clumping is if they get sent
to convention as guests and they may or may not perform as they do
back home.  It gets introduced anyway cause there's that quota of new
names to get out there every year.

Now, I have probably just slit my own throat here by making all the
big growers mad.  But in days of old, people actually visited gardens
and looked at gardenability, etc.  It just don't happen any more.
