Wednesday I am buying a house in MidHudson Valley, New York. Like yourself I
am located on the downside of a ridge and in the spring the mountain runoff
gathers in pools. In some areas I have 1/2 inch of top soil and other areas
6 inches, below that is clay.
I am not certain how large your yard is, but have you thought about digging a
curtain drain. Taking the water away from flowers that will drown and
planting other flowers and shrubs in the wet area. A small bridge over the
dreain can be made to look quite beautiful. This will be my plan of attack,
along with raised beds.
Raised beds will drain and warm up faster in the spring.
