Not as such, but Grace Sturtevant or Masssachusetts [USA], the early iris
hybridizer and brother of Robert Sturtevant, Editor of the AIS Bulletin for
many years, was quoted as having found iris borer in columbine. She also grew
an enormous amount of columbine as a companion for irises. Miss Sturtevant
was trained as a botanical illustrator and she would not have been mislead on
this by anything but a very close resemblance to iris borer, if, indeed, by
that. I've mentioned this here before so I'll refer you to the Archives for
the whole discussion. I think I'd try 'Sturtevant AND borer AND aquilegia' as
a search term. The Archives are located at:

About bushes being attractive to the borer, yes. They are weak flyers and
like convenient resting places, shade, and areas which are protected from
winds.
