I assume that is one of his gardeners. Probably his smallest gardener. 
Pilkington would probably not be out having his picture taken without his hat

Frankly, as far as I can make out, nothing is consistently any one 
height....... 

I'd expect this to be an exceedingly well grown English clump of PURISSIMA, 
superbly sited, sheltered, staked, and grown with all the best hoodoo, not to 
say doodoo, and specialized knowhow of the BIS President--or past president, 
maybe, by that time. I doubt it would do this everywhere. How could it? But 
it clearly has it in it to do it. I mean, that guy can only be so 
short....Pilkington is the one for which that superb Cayeux iris was named, 
of course, PRESIDENT PILKINGTON. 

I love that picture... It is SO bizarre. We need to put THAT one on a 
teeshirt. Looks like a flipping canna or something! 

Now, about other really big ones......there was a neat thread once, probably 
more than one.......about outsized TBs. Jeff offered some names of ones that 
grow rather dramatically large for him....look in the first week of December 
1997 in the Archives.
