Rosalie, don't let my words of caution stop you. I'm sure you've spent
more on one iris that died. <grin> I think we should all be trying to
stretch and redevelop the zone survival information that seems so etched
in stone. I like to check at least 3 references before I accept the
concept that I don't live in the right place to grow something. Then, if
I think I like it, I'll still try to grow it. I've killed a few things
that way, but there have been some pleasant surprises, too. You don't
want to know how many Itea ilicifolia I've killed--and I think I'm going
to try it one more time. On the other hand, Michelia figo (banana
shrub), which should be a greenhouse plant for me is going to bloom this
year at 6'. I've had it for 8 years and it's been frozen to the ground 3
times. Here at the edge of Zone 6-7, I feel that I would be remiss not
to at least try to grow camellias, Illicium, Viburnum davidii and V. x
juddii, to name a few.

Tom, that would be a shame. Personally, I find the Leland cypress to be
a worse offender.
Walter, I've heard the threat that loropetalum could replace azaleas
before, but I don't think it will happen, since it is "zonally
challenged". I hope it will find a niche more like the flowering almond
has. As for "razzleberri", I'm clueless as to it's etiology.
