Speaking as a workerbee for HIPS I'd like to say that we hope everyone will
pause and think about what they might have to contribute to this auction.
This is an especially good place to unload old publications which no longer
play a vital role in your life. We like all that stuff, and we study it,
preserve it, and pass on succulent and useful bits from it to others when the
need arises.
We are looking forward to the Happening. Clarence Mahan is the featured
speaker and there will be an extraordinary "magic lantern" show as well.
Magic Lantern slides are the forerunners of the modern photographic slides
that we see projected at other talks. These slides from the Regional
collection date to roughly 1924 and they once belonged to Ethel A. S. Peckham
who was the force behind the 1929 and 1939 Check Lists. This should be an
extraordinary experience.
So, please help support the AIS Region which has demonstrated its support of
HIPS' unique mission by hosting this first historic mini-convention. They are
working real hard up there to make it a success, and whether you can attend
or not, we hope you will help them by making a contribution. Thank you.
In celebration of this event I am sharing my own personal HIPSource theme
song ....sung loosly but con brio to the tune of the immortal Roy Orbison's
"O, Pretty Woman"...... all together now ...
