Re: CULT:Define Luminata

From: Sterling Okase <sterling_o@yahoo.com>

My definition of Plicata, Luminata and Glaciata comes
from a club meeting where Keith Keppel was a guest
speaker and some conversations with Keith and Jean
Witt. So unless I misunderstood what was being said,
this information is pretty much from "The Experts" on
plicatas.

Yes, regular plicatas have white, yellow or pink
grounds with their pattern (freckling, sanding,
stitching) either just on the rims of the petals such
as STEPPING OUT and JESSE'S SONG, or all over the
petals as in QUEEN IN CALICO or INDISCREET.

> luminata is darker background with
> light markings...

No, they are still darker markings on a light ground
color but the patterning is toward the center of the
petals leaving the rims, petal veining and area around
the beard showing the ground color. Markings are
usually more sanded than stitched or freckled.
Examples would be SPIRIT WORLD, FLIGHTS OF FANCY,
FANCY WOMAN and MIND READER. Basically, Keith Keppel
and Jean Witt defined a Luminata as the reverse
patterning, like a photo negative of a regular
plicata.

I am not sure what you mean by "clean" selfs. Not all
selfs would be glaciatas. Glaciata would be totally
unmarked flowers, usually white, yellow or pink. True
glaciatas have no haft markings like ELSA SASS or
ANSWERED PRAYERS. Glaciatas are determined by the
fact that they come from plicata breeding but have no
markings what so ever, not even haft markings.

As far as I know, beard color does not affect a
Glaciata being classified as a Glaciata. I do know
that to get Luminatas and Glaciatas with tangerine
beards is very rare and very difficult since they are
all recessive traits.
