When I do this the ground is usually so wet that the plants just push into the
ground and stay there. If they are tipped over or too far out of the ground
then they have to be planted and covered with soil. Stepping on them certainly
is easier and quicker. If I tried this two weeks ago I would have to have been
pulled out of the garden as the mud resembled quicksand. Geordie (one of my
6yr old twin boys) tried to take a shortcut across the garden at that time. It
took him forever and he had to be hosed down afterwards.
