Yesterday the question was posed about how things were looking for the
AIS Destiny Dallas 2000 convention. It's great! Bonnie Nichols
reported to me today and I quote:
"I am pleased this year to see our SDBs blooming first and not after the
TBs.
Actually seems more like a normal year (or at least the way we teach
bloom
sequence). We have some of Ghio's California LAs in bloom; but this is
their
first year".
In my garden I have also had SDBs and IB's blooming that didn't bloom
last year. I have several Louisianas that will bloom about the 10th of
the month and so many buds on TBs right now that I can hardly stand the excitement!
As to the Tour Gardens, as stated earlier this week, the Dallas
Arboretum is doing very well, thank you. Quite a few diligent
volunteers were out weeding on Sat. before The Deluge came (preamble to
The Tornado). There were about 65 varieties in bloom, some lovely AB's
a few La's, IB's and the early TB's. They were blooming in what
appeared to be a normal time frame for them so we anticipate the days of
the tour to be idyllic.
I was over at Lew Begley's on Sunday and he, too, has a goodly amount of
IB's and early TB's, but nothing out of the ordinary in premature bloom;
the blooms are all waiting for each of you to come see for yourselves.
Marie was at our monthly meeting and reported that everything was ship
shape up in her neck of the woods and for those of you who were at the
Ft. Worth convention 7 years ago and went out to Cool, Tx to view the
Clark Gardens, just hang onto your hats! The expansion they have done
is just this side of mind boggling. The Spears have been toiling
diligently to show off their place and I know Joan Stanley is chompin'
at the bit for y'all to come visit her little bit of heaven.
All in all I foresee that each of the 9 gardens on tour will be at their
peak when our busses come rolling in. I just wish each and every one of
you could be with us.
