Probably not this one. It is a side view, not full face, and is pretty
primitive and low -contrasty. It is from a reprint of the Quality Gardens
Catalog that HIPS sold at one time. I don't know whether the original was in
'color' or not. Mike might know, or even have the original catalog, but he
must be busy getting ready for Dallas so I hate to bug him with it right now.

As Phil Edinger keeps telling me, keep your eye peeled for something Old,
Blue, and BIG. Otherwise, she is not said to have PBF, nor much fragrance,
but she IS supposed to announce her distinction clearly. The photo seems to
indicate some texture to the petals, not smooth and glossy.

Someone in Charlotte, or Raleigh--Elizabeth Lawrence territory --needs to
look hard for her. Don't mistake pallidas for her. They have those fully
papery spathes and tall foliage and smaller flowers close to the stalk. They
also tend to bloom earlier.

I did a websearch on her name and ended up at a maddening French Canadian
geneaological site but never unearthed what I was looking for. I've no idea
who Loetitia was. Or at least I don't know yet.

Thanks for your interest. Maybe I'll do us up a composite description of
another lost Grand Dame. A little scavenger hunt for HIPS makes for a nice
Sunday afternoon ride in iris season.
