Yes, the local historic aphylla I've been growing for quite a few
years here will dry up and go dormant in extended hot, dry
weather.
In wet summers and when I watered this aphylla it kept growing and
sending up repeat blooms throughout the summer until frosts.
I can't remember if the aphylla roots were more densely branched
than other bearded iris.
