That's why Walter Moore's suggestion of breeding from California-bred-
and-selected Ghio introductions involving Romantic Evening and 
related lines is a source of some hope.  Some of these have quite 
black falls.  Breeding for selfs (selecting away from the bicolor 
genetics involved) might be a fruitful avenue to explore for warm 
climate blacks.  The aphylla ancestry is so remote in these there is 
a chance some dis-association between the problem characteristics and 
the dark color has occurred.

The Blyth generations behind Joe Ghio's lines involved in Romantic 
Evening also occured in a warm climate zone in Australia, not unlike 
California in character.
