Maybe, maybe not - depends on what's missing in the soil, what's needed
by the irises, and what's present in the compost.  If the compost is
made from plants growing on soil deficient in a particular
micronutrient, then the compost probably wouldn't help.  If the
micronutrients are present in the soil, but not available because of
high pH, then if compost helps lower the pH, that might help. etc etc.
