RE: CULT: branching and bud count

How can anyone criticize a stalk for opening 3 blooms at once? Most "Best
Specimen" winners I have seen are triples. Okay, so it's not open as long
in the garden; there has to be some tradeoff. I hate watching one flower
die , then waiting 3 more days for the second one to open. Any TB with less
than six buds probably isn't woth introducing. I have almost never seen two
buds in the same socket open at the same time; this shouldn't be a major
concern. More likely, poor branching structure sometimes results in two
sockets close to each other at the top; I've seen two such open at once and
it can be ugly. I had wonderfully branched specimens of Stingray blooming
for me all winter with as many as 6 or 8 well placed buds open at once on
some stalks. Not a great flower, just a good example. With the high bud
count and the number of stalks, longevity was never an issue.
