Doris,

Certainly no need for an apology. The BIO just makes things friendlier, 
but is certainly not a requirement.

If we wanted to run through the old joke, I could say that there's 
a club in Texarkana, and then you could point out that Chicago is 
closer to Texarkana than you are.

But instead I will be more practical and suggest that there might 
be more activity in New Mexico that is "close" to to you than there 
is in Texas. 

Anyhow, welcome to the list, and please try our Friday evening 
chat group if you like that sort of thing.

BTW, I don't know how familiar you are with aril and arilbred 
irises, but they are probably the best suited to your location.
