RE: Re:RE:Edith Wolford progeny

Not only do we enjoy Ghio's things and Keppel's things but after hearing all
these bad things about EW I had to run out and check our clump. This will
be its second bloom season in this place (we dug and moved it in 2000)and
there are probably 10 or 12 fans on each of two pieces so it reproduces well
here. I remember it blooming although I have yet to get it to a show.
Maybe we are just some of the few that it grows for.

Just goes to show, Dykes medal winners are not all deserving. Many lovely
iris are difficult to grow. I do remember hearing of a good row of Edith in
bloom once in southern California's "high desert" area, and I saw it looking
great on an episode of "Victory Garden" somewhere (probably in Oregon).
Other than that, I haven't seen or heard of it doing well anywhere.

Have those of you in other climates had as much wonderful luck as I have
with recent Ghio intros? Of course most Byers things (and now I find many
Sutton things) are excellent growers, but for sheer beauty I'll take Ghio's
best work over anything. Even extras that sound ordinary on paper ('I never
would have ordered that") usually turn out to be excellent and uniquely
lovely.
