Iris shrevei is considered at best a synonym of Iris virginica, and is
probably not a separate species. This form has been definitely less
vigorous than other virginica types in my garden, but the BIS species book
says it is "more adaptable to British conditions." Since it is local in
your area, it should give you no problems. All virginica variants need
abundant moisture and often grow in standing water.
